Master Bedroom Makeover: The Plan

Since we moved in, our bedroom has been the one room where not much has happened. Furniture has stayed the same, no drapes have been hung, no rug has been laid down, and zero art has been hung on the walls. Kinda sad, right?

A few months ago, we finally bought ourselves a new mattress and we love it so much that we find ourselves retreating to our room more and more to kick back and watch tv. Because we’re spending more time in the space, I want for it to feel more cozy and comfortable and now, with a clearer vision in mind, I’m ready to give our master bedroom a new look!

Master Bedroom Makeover: The Plan

Our Bed

Let’s talk about this bed. I absolutely love this antique bed so much, but for our lives right now, I’m not so sure it fits. Our bedroom is a fair size, but this bed seems too big and clunky for the space. The height is also an issue. Our cat, Baby, sleeps with us every night and because she’s getting older, it’s getting harder for her to jump up and down that high. And also, it’s super hard to find a bed skirt for a bed this high.

So, it’s probably safe to say this bed will not be staying.

Things to be done here:

– reupholster headboard

– make valance for bed

– get a rug

– buy/make a bed skirt

– hang frames above night stands

– style night stands

Dressing Table

I love being able to sit down and put my makeup on and do my hair in the morning, so a dressing table is an absolute must. This used to be my workspace, until I created an office nook in the storage closet in our living room. But now, it functions quite well as a space to get ready, all it needs is some sprucing up.

Things to do here:

– repaint table

– recover stool

– paint mirror

– add accessories

– do laundry lol

Master Bedroom Makeover: The Plan

Isn’t this armoire gorgeous?!? It was passed down to me from my parents and I absolutely love it. Instead of it being in this corner, I think I’m going to move it so that it sits in the center of the wall with the outlet. And then, move a small chair and a lamp into the corner to create a small reading nook.

Things to be done in this corner:

– move armoire

– move/reupholster chair

-buy a floor lamp for the corner

– figure out better storage for shoes

– make the tv situation/top of armoire more aesthetically pleasing

– make drapes

As you can see, I’ve got quite the list of things to accomplish to makeover our master bedroom. I better get to work like NOW!

We kind of did the same thing with our bedroom after we moved into our house—we focused on other rooms and neglected our bedroom for a while. It’s still not 100% where I’d like to be, but it’s got a little more style to it now! I’m excited to see what you do with your bedroom; maybe it’ll give me the push I need to make those final choices in ours 😀

I think our bedrooms get neglected because visitors don’t usually go in there, but at the end of the day it’s so important for that room to be cozy and comfortable. I’m excited for the final result, I think it’s going to be quite different than it is now!
