The Greenbrier Resort

The Greenbrier Resort
The bright, colorful, and beautifully designed Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV
I think the first time I heard about The Greenbrier was when Erin Gates posted about her family vacation there a couple of years ago on Instagram and I’ve been completely obsessed ever since then. Why you ask? Uhmm, have you seen the decor? We’re talking bold color, stripes, floral patterns galore, lacquered furniture, palm print wallpaper, and Dorothy Draper’s signature, the black and white checkered floor! So, when my Mama asked if I’d join her for a girls weekend there, I packed my bag immediately!
If you’re not familiar, Dorothy Draper (owner of America’s first interior design company and all around amazing woman) was hired to decorate The Greenbrier back in the day after it had taken quite a beating during Word War II. The Greenbrier has over 750 guest rooms and she completed the whole thing in about 18 months. Say what now?? Let’s be real, I can’t even decorate my whole house in 18 months. #getitgirl Since, Dorothy Draper’s passing in the late 60’s, Carleton Varney, her protege, has maintained her legacy as well as her taste for design at The Greenbrier. And let me tell you, it is definitely something to see!
I believe in doing the thing you feel is right. If it looks right, it is right.

Isn’t this place just the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?
I always put in one controversial item. It makes people talk.

“Your home is the backdrop of your life, whether it is a palace or a one-room apartment.”
-Dorothy Draper
There are so many things to do while you’re at The Greenbrier. You can shop, bowl, go off-roading, hiking, take a sulphur soak at the spa (my Mom highly recommends it LOL), or like me, just wonder around snapping an unheard-of amount of pictures.
I’ll admit, when we first arrived, it was a bit overwhelming. The place is huge! I thank God for the generous bellhop who helped me get to my room. I would’ve never found it. Although The Greenbrier is huge and no doubt, they have a certain standard, it’s not intimidating at all. Everyone that I came in contact with was so welcoming, willing to help, and nice.
I hope through these pictures you really got a sense for how incredibly beautiful and one-of-a-kind this place is! As someone who’s passionate about all things interior design, I can tell you that this place taught me to take risks, pink does in fact look magnificent with forest green, every chair deserves a good floral pattern, you can never have too much color, and most importantly, design a space that makes your heart happy!*Update*
Here is a video of our trip that I made my mom for Christmas. Enjoy!

Amazing! It sort of reminds me of a Wes Anderson movie but happier!
